LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

FRI, FEB 22

Hickory Hills: First time skiing at Hickory Meadows. What a delight. I did not expect such great grooming.
Deep set tracks--sometimes two sets side by side, wide skate lane, and excellent conditions. Fun place to ski and with Hickory Hills right next door, there is something for everyone.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Trails groomed again today. New track set. Great conditions for both classic and skate on bucks run.

Conditions should be great for Mike Muha island crust skiing in morning.

Boyne Mountain: Trails are in great shape. Although the air is warm, the snow is still firm. Snow is moderate speed.

The sun is shining, so hope you get to enjoy it before the weather changes on Sunday!

Vasa Trail: Today is the day folks - if you can get out, by all means do it.

Classic tracks are in great shape. Skate lane is fast and firm. No soft spots on the uphills.

Shanty Creek - Schuss Mtn: It is a beautiful bluebird day on the SCR Nordic trails. Snow conditions are perfect for a fast glide around Pine Cone and Poet’s Loop, or challenge yourself and skate up Mountain Creek. Brad the Groomer Groomer groomed all trails this morning, and several skiers have reported fast, hard, classic-perfect tracks.

Crystal Mountain: Come out, come out where ever you are. I groomed everything yesterday and Greg touched things up today. I went out and skied the hills first thing this morning and it was so good I wanted to call in sick but couldn't because as I said Greg (my boss) was out grooming and saw me skiing so I couldn't get away with it. Any way conditions couldn't be better. The way things have been this winter with the roller coaster weather you need to ski while you can. There are some leaves down but there will be a lot more on Sunday with the 50mph winds they are calling for. So today's the day. If you can't get here-go somewhere and ski.

Hickory Hills: If you have read my trail reports about Hickory Hills in the past you know how much I rave about this world cup course. It is important if you go there that we show our support and appreciation by purchasing a trail pass or better yet a yearly membership. This is not a free venue, the community needs our support. There is no signage indicating a trail pass is required so you need to make sure you go to the club house or even knock on the trailer door. One day last week I couldn't even find someone to pay. If you do go there, write a trail report, we need more comments other than myself. Hickory management is still sorting things out but I am convinced this is going to draw national attention some day.

Forbush Corner: Amazing conditions for skate and classic skiing today. All east and west trails are groomed and firm; and today Larry is grooming the Hartwick Pines Loop (Roberts, Townline, and the top of the Weary Legs Loop). Not to mention 30% off all apparel; and 20% off skis and equipment. We also have a handful of demos (skate 2.0 - amazing) for skiers to try.

Hanson Hills: Trails do not get any better than what we have had the past week! Ton's of snow, perfect skate lanes and deep set tracks!

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: The ski conditions are very good to excellent on all trails. Groomer Butch reset tracks yesterday with great results, despite a few remaining oak leaves. Groomer Mike will snow comb the skating lanes this morning. Snow depth in the woods is 24 to 27 inches, and packed on the trail about 13 to 15 inches. Despite some wet weather in the forecast, the skiing will be very good Saturday morning until early afternoon, so plan on taking advantage of the great conditions while we have them!

Join us for the Junior Muffin Race this Sunday, Feb 24th!

The longest standing Junior race in Michigan, the Muffin Race celebrates the fun of youth skiing with a Junior Girls & Boys Team Sprint Relay race. Inspired by the Gold Medal victory by Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall in the 2018 Olympics, this freestyle relay race will feature two skiers per relay team. Each skier will ski a total of 3 laps around a 1km course, handing off to their teammate between each lap, totaling 6 laps per team. Registration begins at 9:30am on Sunday, and we will shoot for a 10:30am start. This is a Michigan Cup Junior Race. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in the girls division, boys division, and coed division, and awards will also be given for best costumes! Registration s $10. The Mini Muffin races (for ages 6 to 12) will take place immediately after, and there is no registration fee for the Minis. See you there, rain or shine!!!

THU, FEB 21

Huron Meadows Metropark: Skied classic today.
Skate lane and classic tracks still in good shape on bucks run.
Getting thin from building to woods. Still a great ski.

Ogemaw Hills Pathway: Beautiful and beautiful conditions. 1-2" of fresh snow, 29 degrees, sunny.
Green and a lot of the blue tracks are well worn with skiers, hikers and snow shoe. Shoes generally stay off tracks but hikers have not. Still, good enough track to enjoy. Black diamond trails appear to be too far for hikers and are very good.

Vasa Trail: Continued great grooming, super conditions, get out today and early Friday, Saturday may be poor weather

Unlisted trail: Avalanche Preserve. Boyne City. Groomed Fat tire trails are perfect for a great kick and glide.
2-3 inches fresh snow on top. Skied it first thing this morning with Kim and David. Couldn't be better conditions

Huron Meadows Metropark: First skier out after the groomer finished. Perfect conditions! Firm controlable surface with just a tiny bit of sugar. How come I’m the only one here? Report written at noon.

Hanson Hills: 1 inch of new snow. Groomer Jason has set fresh tracks on the Red Trail and is snow combing full trail system this morning. Lodge and Trails Open at 9am

Forbush Corner: Open at 9 am today. Grooming up east side, skiing should be as good as it gets today. Sales storewide.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We received 2 inches of snow throughout the day yesterday and last night, which was just enough to freshen up the trails and cover many of the oak leaves. Groomer Butch will snow comb the skating lanes and touch up the tracks this morning. Conditions are excellent for classic and skating! Snow depth in the woods is 24 to 27 inches, and packed on the trail about 13 to 15 inches.

Today’s Stone Turtle Day Lodge Cafe Lunch Special is the Gourmet Grilled Cheese Panini! Swiss, provolone, basil pesto, and sliced tomato grilled to perfection on herb focaccia bread. Served with Great Lakes Chips and a Pickle. Race equipment closeouts have begun, so come on over and demo, or get fitted by a pro. Enjoy the mild temps today!
