Winner of the Finlandia Hiito Ski Marathon Joins Ullr/Maybury Team
Oct 31, 2002 - By Ken Dawson
If you have been out to Kensington and noticed a young women blasting by you on a classic roller skis, be not afraid. This is no ordinary women, she is the newest member of Ullr/Maybury's Nordic Ski Team.

Following the success of the Detroit Red Wings, Ullr/Maybury has opted to search the international market to upgrade their team. Tired of the normal 50 year old male skier, they found a young 27 year old Finish skier named Anu Kyyhkynen. Anu was last years women's winner of the Finlandia Hiito Ski Marathon. The Finlandia is part of the World Loppet and attracted 5555 skiers from over 12 countries.

Anu is currently living in Westland, MI as part of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. She will be here for one year and hopes to compete in several Michigan Cup races and is trying to peak for the US Nationals in January. Ten years ago she was in the US as an exchange student and attend the Junior Nationals where she won the Classic race.

As Michigan Cup enters its 20th season it is a pleasure to have such an accomplished international skier join our ranks. If you see her at one of the races, take the time to introduce yourself and welcome Anu into our ski family. Who knows, maybe she will be so impressed with our program that her stay may be long term.
