The Traverse City Trojan & Titan Combined Nordic Ski Team came back on the second day of the State Championship Ski event in Walloon Lake, MI to defend the State title. The Traverse City Gold Team was led by Anna Coulter, who won the girls Classic race on Saturday, and by Cameron Ross who came in 2 seconds behind Jared Craig of Marquette on Saturday. Other top finishers in the girls classic race were Michaela Harris(9th), Natalie Dall'Olmo(12th), Sara Nestor(13th). Kristina Adair (15th) led the TC Black Team and Maura Carney (18th) led the TC Green Team. Top finishers in the boy's race behind Ross were Chris Scott(7th), Jon Ault (12th), Bill BradleyIII(14th), and John Hall(15th). David Ogden(19th) led the TC Black Team and Dan Kenny(21) was the top TC Green skier. On the second day with a pursuit start Anna Coulter took a :23 second lead into the race and kept building it from there. She easily finished in first place in the pursuit race and won the freestyle event by 3:01 over second place finisher Ingrid Fjeldheim of Marquette. The TC girls Gold team won the Freestyle event but not by enough to win the overall girls title. That honor went to the young girls team from Copper Country (Houghton area) who surprised both the Traverse City and Marquette Teams by starting the second day in first place. Finishing behind Coulter were Harris (6th), Dall'Olmo (9th), and Nestor (11th). The TC Black girls team was led by Kristina Adair (15), while Maura Carney (16th) led the Green Team. The boy's race was much more dramatic with Cam Ross starting :02 seconds behind Craig. These two battled for nine kilometers, exchanging leads several times, before Cam Ross took the lead for the last time in the final Kilometer to finish 17 seconds ahead and clinch the first TC Boys Individual State Title ever. Helping Ross clinch the Team title were Scott (3rd), Ault (8th) and Bill Bradley III (15th). The top TC Black skier was David Ogden (17th) and Andrew Gulseth (21st) led TC Green. Other area skiers who had top ten finishes were Cassidy Edwards (3rd) and Laura Meeker (7th) in the Girls Classic Race, Morgan Weir (5th) Boys Classic, Laura Meeker (3rd) Girls Freestyle, and Morgan Weir (9th) Boy's Freestyle. The TC boy's had to battle the Copper Country boy's team and come back from a 1 point deficit to take State Team honors by a 13 point margin, which gave the girls and boys team a combined total that earned them their second overall state crown in two years.
