Rollerskiers (and bikers, inline skaters, and runners) will be able to roller ski 18.1 miles (28K) around Kensington, out to Milford, and back again, without having to ski on the park road.

Approximately 6.2 miles of Marquette to Munising rail-trails, outheast of Marquette, between the Marquette Welcome Center on US Highway 41 S and the Ojibwa Casino on State Highway M-28 E, will be closed. The rail-trail is expected to reopen on Sept. 1.

Hartwoick Pines State Park just north of Grayling, Michigan has a fine section of road for doing rollerski intervals, and links to the Grayling Bicycle Turnpike for roller skiers who want a distance workout.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment announced that a three-mile section of the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail in Kent County is closed due to mud slides and washouts from the recent storms. Rollerskiers beware!

Newly paved, the trail is approximately 3.6 miles long. The bucolic scenery makes for excellent roller skiing. The trails twists and turns, there are a number of longish but gentle climbs, and one or two slightly steeper sections.

A portion of the Pere Marquette State Rail-Trail, used by rollerskiers and approximately 5.4 miles in length, will be closed for asphalt surfacing during the months of June and July.

The Grayling Bicylce Turnpike runs about 6.1 miles from Grayling out to Hartwick Pines State Park. You can easily get in a 20K rollerski - and add more distance with a couple other options.

We're on rollerskis by 8:30am. We head north on a relatively smooth section of road with a few little ups and downs. Rick quickly takes the lead and I struggle to keep up.

A trail reroute, a trail repair, and a new set of mile markers are nearly complete this spring on Kensington Metropark's hike-bike trail. The reroute will make the trail slightly longer while eliminating a hill.

Kensington's paved path around the lake is going to be repaved between the two bridges along I-96. It is currently all gravel and unsuitable for rollerskis or rollerblades.

UPDATED: A six mile section of Hines Drive is closed to automobiles from Outer Drive Road west to Ann Arbor Trail, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday from May 6 through September 30, 2006 for walking, cycling, inline skating - & rollerskiing!
