In the sprint qualification, many distance racers qualified as somewhat expected surprises. The Tour is taking its toll on everybody, but very likely it's tougher for sprinters and gives better chances for the distance racers.

It only cooled down to about 38 degrees during the night, so during the women's race it was kind of like boilerplate ice. But by the guys' race, it softened up and then turned to slush and was loose.

Kris Freeman took his second straight victory at the U.S. Cross Country Championships in Houghton, Michigan. Alexa Turzian of Sun Valley won the women's 10 kilometer event with a time of 27:49.

US Ski Team members Kris Freeman and Lindsay Weier took the men's and women's title. Both competed in the2002 and 2006 Olympics. Weier also competeswith her college team at Northern Michigan University.

This very fast course built on the Munich Olympic stadium did not tolerate any balancing mistakes and we witnessed many falls during heats and finals.
