The Sapporo Marathon is the only Worldloppet race (at least that I’m aware of) that honors visiting racers by giving them a starting area encompassing approximately one half of the front line in the elite wave.

It snowed for several days before and the course was freshly groomed for both skating and classic skiing. A very cold morning (–26°C) delayed the start from 10 am to 11am.
