Wednesday was a Nordic day in Tarvisio: while Finland took gold in both the men's 10km race in the free technique and in the Nordic Combined Gundersen event, Sweden claimed gold in the ladies' 5km race. The US's Elizabeth Stephen takes 7th.

Valaas' medal is the first won by an American woman. Valaas joined the new CXC team from the Central Division this winter and has teamed with Caitlin Compton to dominate the domestic racing.
