Ski conditions in the area are currently good to excellent. Several inches of fresh snow is forecast for the next 48 hours with cool temperatures and a chance of snow forecast for the entire week leading up to the start of the Subaru NM2004.

We are still in need of volunteer support in several areas for the Women's Ski Tour on Feb 1. Any commitment you can make will be greatly appreciated. Please consider attending the next meeting. It is support of volunteers that make this event a success.

Another local skier from the Soo Finnish Ski Club in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario is doing very well at US Nationals. Adam Kates, a Soo native, and skiing for Canada has one top ten, one top twenty and one top thirty finish at US Nationals.

Michigander Cassidy Edwards, current J1 Girls Classic National Champion, is competing against the best skiers in the country and finishing within 90% of Olympian, Wendy Wagner.

The first Tuesday Night XC Ski Sprints took place at Timber Ridge on January 6 in very cold, windy, snowy conditions, for skiers and spectators alike.

This Junior-only race was held at Boyne Mountain after the originally scheduled Boyne Highlands Classic Race was cancelled because of poor snow conditions.

The Boyne Highlands Classic race scheduled for Sunday Jan 4 is officially cancelled. There is a small possibility that the GLD will move the Junior Olympic Qualifier to Boyne Mountain. Brian Carlson and Nick Baic will be discussing options with other JO coaches.

UPDATED! RESULTS & PICTURES (1/4/2004)! Sometimes skiing through mashed potatos, Milan Baic crossed the finish line first to win the 11 km men's race. Megan Madion finished first in the Women's 7 km. In the 7 km Junior Olympic Qualifier race, Julia Coulter and Jared Cregg were victorious.

NOON: Just got off the phone with Nick Baic - both races this weekend are still a GO. The Chestnut Valley race will be held on the golf course like last year.
