I note that there is much discussion on the Michigan Cup schedule this year concerning both classic racing and the preferred classical status of the Noque. Let me review the situation from both and historical perspective and the current situation.

In recognition of the increased number of women racing in the Michigan Cup, scoring in the Senior/Master Women’s division races will begin at either 200 or 150 (short marathon race) for first and go down by 4 rather than 5 points per place.

The Michigan Cup Committee voted to increase the cost of joining the Michigan Cup from $5 to $6 per individual to cover increased costs of postage, medals, pins, etc.

Two changes have been made in the scoring of the relay race for the 2007 Michigan Cup Series: a fourth age group has been added and the points awarded to 1st place finishes has been reduced.

The Michigan Cup Committee unanimously accepted a proposal by the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club to hold a Michigan Cup race in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario during the weekend of February 17-18, 2006.
