Valley Spur: Perfectly groomed corduroy & classic tracks for my 43 km Irish Challenge today. Wish I could have done it on Sunday since they're having a potluck at Valley Spur as part of the celebration, but it was time for me to get home after 2 wks skiing at Stokely, Munising, Ironwood, Porcupine Mtn & Hancock.
Black Mountain: Black Mountain's entire system was freshly groomed for classic and skate skiing on Friday, March 16, and has excellent conditions for skiing throughout. There is a solid base, and high temperatures are predicted in the mid 30s this weekend and highs in the 20s through next week, so skiing conditions should hold in the excellent range. There is virtually no leaf litter throughout the system. Wildlife tracks and activity are on the increase. Black Mountain has deer, coyote, fox and many different small mammals throughout the system. Beautiful vistas on ridges overlook Lake Huron and Black Lake. Several different evergreen species as well as mixed conifers and hardwoods exist within the system. There are over 30 kilometers of trails. Get out and enjoy the superb conditions before spring weather arrives for good.
Thanks again to the efforts and extensive time of our Black Mountain Nordic Ski club groomers, especially to Al, Denny, Jim M and John G, for creating the current super skiing!
Nubs Nob: Best skate conditions of the year!
Huron Meadows Metropark: Skied classic on buck's run. Tracks are deep and in very good condition most of the way around the trail. They were getting soft, so they may be icy in the morning. Both skate and classic still in excellent condition.
Cross Country Ski Headquarters: Just skied what was groomed on the HQ trails with my good skis, and was really happy to see such great conditions on much of the trail system. Mike snowcombed the Trappers Cabin, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, and Rolling Hills trails this morning, which overall are in great shape. Rolling Hills is excellent with the "S Curve" return (the extension is ungroomed and somewhat thin), and with tracks set on some parts. Trapper's Cabin and Mackinaw Cut are both excellent with tracks set on some parts. Wild Turkey is 90% excellent, and we will be patching the thin spot towards the end of the trail this morning. Manitou, Tall Pines, and Adventure are in fair to good condition for classic rock skiing. As Mike said, "the skating lanes are as flat as I-75." Overall the snow we have gotten this week, plus the grooming efforts have resulted in some fantastic conditions on much of the trail system!

Forbush Corner: All of the east side trails will be groomed for skating and classic and we will be adding more trails on the west side today and tomorrow. I used my good skis yesterday with no problem. We have 100% coverage, but there are a few thin spots. So, the skiing will be best today and Saturday morning before the sun and warmer temperatures arrive and things start to melt. This weekend is Founder's Day with a potluck on Saturday night for anyone who is interested. We will also be running our customer appreciation sale with an additional 5% off of our sale prices. Current sale prices are 40% off of aparael, 30% off of skis, equipment and gloves and 20% off of waxes and glasses. Skiing should be great today and this weekend.
