On Day 3, athletes competed in a 1.3km Skate sprint. Originally, the sprint was set to be Classic, but 60+ degree temperatures and persistent rain made it impossible to set a track. The course was slushy and wet, but, in the end, it was still a great day

LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

MON, MAR 18

Forbush Corner: What a great weekend of spring skiing. Larry is going out to groom up badlands this morning. Everything is still in great shape with complete coverage, but with the thaw freeze cycle of spring the tracks are very firm in the morning and softening up by the afternoon. We will be open today 9-5. Our snow pack is still quite deep. We will be open next Friday- Sunday.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: It was a great weekend of spring skiing at HQ under lots of sunny skies and very comfortable temps. It is still getting quite cold at night, so Groomer Mike will snow comb all trails this morning. Morning conditions will be fast and fun, with some icy spots appearing in some of the heavily skied areas. Later in the day as things warm up, the snow will soften up. The best skating can be found on the Rolling Hills trail, and the best tracks can be found on Wild Turkey. As usual this time of year, the trail head is starting to get a bit slick, so please walk out past the ice to get started. Also, the Manitou trail has several considerable ice bridges, and should be avoided unless you are comfortable traversing sections of glare ice. Conditions change on a daily basis this time of year, so watch out for bits of debris on the trail underneath the big trees, and exercise caution when skiing down all hills!

Today's lunch special is Rocky Mountain Chipotle Turkey Sandwich! Oven roasted turkey, Swiss cheese, chipotle mayo, spinach, onion, bell peppers and tomato, grilled to perfection on hearty grain bread. Great Lakes Chips and a pickle come with it for maximal enjoyment. Ski while there's snow!

SUN, MAR 17

Huron Meadows Metropark: Skiing on Bucks' Run may be at and end? ? But, if you want to keep excellent skiing going in S.E. Michigan; please show your support. Come to the end of season party at Huron Meadows. March 30th, 11:45. Huron Meadows clubhouse. This is your chance to pay it back. Try and bring a dish to pass or something to drink (no alcohol).
In addition to the coveted Golden Hamster award, we will present a variety of other awards; humorous and serious-kind of. If you think you deserve some kind of award for your presence skiing, contribution generally, or positive thoughts about skiing, you should probably show up.

Hickory Hills: Hickory Hills and Hickory Meadows were groomed again this morning and conditions were stellar. Even with all the walkers and dogs (I've never seen a dog on a leash yet) with frequent groomings Hickory Meadows has really provided a delightful place to ski this winter and I very much appreciate the groomer's efforts which have made it possible for everyone to enjoy being outside.

Shanty Creek - Schuss Mtn: Good St. Paddy’s Day, Nordic friends!
We have a beautiful sunny day to glide and skate on the SCR trails. Brad the Groomer enjoyed his final ride through the trails this morning, and he reported laying a fine, deep track set on Pine Cone and WinterBrook. Skaters and Classics alike will enjoy a fast run through an inch of fluff covering a solid base.
It’s a fine March day on the SCR Nordic trails!

Forbush Corner: Trails are in great shape with 100% coverage - deep classic tracks and wide skate lanes. Re-groomed Badlands, the Valley, and the 2-way Trail this morning. Everything else was groomed by Larry yesterday including the seasonal roads and the Pines Loop. These trails will be prime as the sun comes up and the temps warm-up a bit. Open 9-5 today and tomorrow too.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: Happy Saint Patrick's Day! It was great to see so many skiers enjoying some fast, fun spring ski conditions yesterday. We received a bit more snow yesterday morning, so the majority of the trail network is fully covered in the bit of fresh snow ground up with crispy old snow, making for lots of glide for both classic and skating. The tracks are old and rock solid, and have just a bit of fresh snow left in them. As per usual this time of year, the trail head is starting to get a bit slick, so please walk out past the ice to get started. Also, the Manitou trail has several considerable ice bridges, and should be avoided unless you are comfortable traversing sections of glare ice. The best trails are the Rolling Hills, Wild Turkey, Mackinaw Cut, Trapper's Cabin and Adventure trails. Groomer Mike will snow comb all trails this morning.

Today's lunch special is the Hawaiian Pork Roll! Hawaiian BBQ pulled pork, red onion, and provolone cheese served hot on a grilled Swiss roll. Served with Great Lakes Chips and a pickle! Order a green Solid Gold Lager to wash it down. Plus, the Spring Sale is on! Shop Closeout prices on race skis, boots XC ski jackets, and XC ski skirts for the ladies. There's still plenty of snow to demo skis, boots and poles!
