Wed, Dec  5, 2007 - By Joe Haggenmiller

The Christmas Classic Nordic ski race will take place December 15-16, at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center in Houghton, Michigan. With more than 30 inches of new snow in the past week, trail conditions are excellent.

The race will feature the courses to be used for the 2008 U.S. Cross Country Championships, which will take place Jan. 1-6 in Houghton. The event is also a Great Lakes Division Junior Olympics qualifier.

Those competing will include youth, junior, collegiate and masters skiers. Saturday, Dec. 15, will feature 5 km and 10 km freestyle races and a 2 km youth race. Sunday, Dec. 16, will include 5 km, 10 km and 15 km classic races, as well as a 2 km youth race.

Registration material is available at (see the Christmas Classic link). Mail-in registration closes Dec. 9, although registrations can be hand-delivered to the Michigan Tech Student Development Complex through Dec. 14. There is no day-of-race registration.
