We had one of the best Muffin Races ever this past Sunday, with over 50 kids from ages 3 to 19 competing in the longest standing junior XC ski race in the state of Michigan. The high school division featured an 8km Pursuit race.
The Central Collegiate Ski Association named the ten top ranked men’s and women’s racers from the conference for 2016. Northern Michigan University took 12 of the available 20 spots by placing six women and six men on each of the All-conference teams.
We have a tie in points for first place overall, with Vasa Ski Club racers Milan Baic and John O'Hearn each having 996 points. Team NordicSkiRacer's Jay Woodbeck is just six points behind in third with 990 points.
The Great Bear Chase ski race will be March 5th this year, and as always, will showcase both our area’s wonderful trails and people. The event requires the dedication and support of over 100 community volunteers.
Foremost among the favorites will be Caitlin Gregg (Minneapolis, MN), going for her fourth Birkebeiner women’s title. Gregg won in 2011 (where she broke the Women’s 50K Skate course record), 2013 and 2014.
