Michigan Cup

[Updated to distinguish between Seniors and Juniors - for juniors, 5 races will still count.]

It has been quite a while since we had the possibility of less than eight races in a Michigan Cup season. With the cancellation of the Black Mountain Classic and the Black Mountain Freestyle, we are officially down to seven senior races for the 2020-2021 Michigan Cup season.

An "arcane" Michigan Cup rule is that a skier's best 5 races would count for individual Michigan Cup points but the number would drop for fewer than 8 races:

The number of races that count must always be at least one more than half of the total number of races, to a maximum of 5.

If the number of races drops to 7 then a skier's top 4 races will count for individual points.

To be more clear:

9+ Races: Best 5 count
8 Races: Best 5 count
7 Races: Best 4 count
6 Races: Best 4 count
5 Races: Best 3 count
4 Races: Best 3 count

So this season, it's now your best 4 races that will count toward Michigan Cup points in the senior division.

The Junior Division has or will have between 9 and 11 races so individual junior rankings will be based on a skiers best 5 races.  Also for team results in both Senior and Masters divisions, all races a skier completes count for team points.
