Kids Learn to Ski Program

BARC Athletics Frosty Kids X-Country Ski Program

Learn to cross country ski! Kids and their parents are invited to 4 sessions at Huron Meadows Metropark by BARC (Brighton Community Education) and Team NordicSkiRacer. All skiing will be a 2km lighted trail that has man-made snow. Instruction is provided by members of Team NordicSkiRacer. This is a beginner's class but kids who have some prior skiing are invited to attend as well!

The four sessions will be held on Wednesdays, Jan 14, 21, 28, and Feb 4, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM:

Clinic #1: Wed Jan 14

Go over basics of skiing and safety in the building and work on getting skis, boot and pole sizes down on paper and send the kids out to do a short lesson in groups. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 8pm

Clinic #2: Wed Jan 21

A continuation from the first clinic. Get instructions from instructors and break into groups and head out on Bucks Run. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 8pm

Clinic #3: Wed: Jan 28

A continuation from the second clinic. Get instructions from instructors and break into groups and head out on Bucks Run. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 8pm

Race Night: Wed Feb 4

Kids will show up for race at 6pm to receive bibs, skis, boots, poles, and information for a 6:30pm event start. After the racers finish they will get a finisher medal, pizza, drink, goody bag with Metro park items and hot cocoa at the lodge. Rules: Ages K-8, but the small kids 6 and under should have a parent with them on the trail to assist with falls and lessens Limit of 40 kids.

After skiing, kids will be treated to hot chocolate and chips! Ski rentals and trail pass are included.

Parents are welcome to participate in the evening lessons or ski on their own.
