Frosty Freestyle and Krazy Klassic races this coming weekend??????
As David Glasgow Farragut said in the 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay: "Damn the torpedoes ... full speed ahead."
Yes, we running our races! We fully expect the Buck's Run to survive the weather. The trail has a solid ice base and the cold ground is keeping it frozen. There are piles of man-made snow ready for action. The course WILL, however, start in the woods on Buck's Run. The loop will be one mile. The longer race will be 6 laps (I can't count any higher), and the short race will be 3 laps, both days.
Will the course be mid-winter perfect grooming? Nope! Expect hard pack, sugar snow, a puddle, wet snow, dry snow, and who knows what else. Temperatures will be below freezing Friday night and right around freezing at race time. Sunday's race may have a little fresh snow.
Are we Krazy? Of course we are! The Frosty Freestyle and Krazy Klassic are the only cross country ski races in the southern half of the lower peninsula. The races must go on!
Be Krazy! Talk about this weekend for years to come!
Registration for the Frosty Freestyle ends at 1:00pm Friday Jan 9.
Registration for the Krazy Klassic ends at 1:00pm Saturday Jan 10.
