Last year, members of Team NordicSkiRacer volunteered to assist students from the Detroit Public Schools with learning how to cross country ski. The meant helping them get their skis on, some techniques tips, and going out and skiing with them at Huron Meadows. The program was a great success, and Huron Meadows and the DPS would like to repeat the experience.
The following dates are being offered to DPS for their cross-country skiing field trip at Huron Meadows:
Alison Lum (Volunteer and Recreation Services Supervisor [email protected]) and Tamra Bezzeg (Park Manager [email protected]) "would truly appreciate it if we could get 3-4 volunteers from Team NordicSkiRacer (or others!) to assist us with the students. It would be the same format as years past with the students coming out from 10 am – 12 pm with lunch from 12 pm – 1 pm. Just having your volunteers assist with getting the skis on and then going out skiing with them has made the students experience an enjoyable one. We truly appreciate your assistance in the past and hope that we can continue working with you all on this field trip as well. Please let us know if you have any questions."
Anyone interested in volunteering would be required to fill out Huron Meadows volunteer paperwork. I (Mike Muha [email protected]) can forward your name and email address to them and they will send the paperwork via email.
