The 3rd Annual NY/PA/NJ Summer Biathlon Championship will be held on September 21, 2008. This final race of the NJ Summer Biathlon Summer Series will serve double duty as the Tri State Championship event this year. So far, only NY has taken advantage of the NJ Website to download applications and get them in! Will NY make it a three-peat in 2008?
This event will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the Shongum Sportsmen’s Association in Oxford, NJ. Pre-registration is mandatory and space is limited. We will not be accepting any race day applications. For directions to Shongum please visit their Website at http://www.shongum.org/contactus.html Or check out the directions provided on our application, available at www.njbiathlon.org
For the event we will be utilizing Shongum’s 100yd range. Upon entering the property, drive up the hill towards the clubhouse. There is not a lot of parking, so please be considerate of other individuals using the facilities on Sunday and park carefully and as close to the clubhouse as possible so that you don’t end up parking on our running course!
Schedule of Events – 9/21/2008
8:30 – Packet Pick up & Registration
9:00 – 9:45: Rifle Zeroing & Practice
10:00 – Accuracy Match
11:00 – 4K Relay
12:30 – Rock-Rabbit Race
Picnic Lunch & Awards to follow the last event.
Match targets will be set at a distance of 50 meters, with a target hit area of 4.5 cm for prone and 9.5 cm for standing shooting. Cuffs are permitted. The penalty loop will be 70 meters. One loop must be run for every missed target.
For those participants who will be bringing their own rifle, please remember to transport it in a case, as per NJ law. You must provide your own rifle and ammunition. Participants who do not own their own rifle but still wish to participate must contact their State Coordinator before registering to see if special arrangements can be made.
The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of horrific pre-race rain (rain that would prevent the targets from being set up, or rain that would create an unsafe trail condition) you will receive a call (if you have preregistered) or e-mail notifying you of any changes or cancellations.
We need volunteers to help during the events on Sunday. We are looking for qualified range volunteers as well as range scorers, timers, penalty loop counters, and magazine reloaders. Please let me know if you or someone in your family can help. We would greatly appreciate it!!
We are all looking forward to an exciting and fun event! If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or your state coordinator.
Hope to see you there!
