The Copper Country Ski Tigers won the Michigan State Championships, having both the best girls and best boys team. The Traverse City Central Trojans were second, followed by the Marquette Senior High School Varsity team.

In the 15 km Pursuit Women's Cross-country competition, Marit Björgen of Norway was able to repeat her Olympic victory in the sprint. She had received super material "under her feet" from her serviceman Perry Olsson.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has reached an understanding with the Michigan State Employees Association (MSEA) that will allow it to work with communities to get cross-country ski trails groomed for the remainder of the ski season.
