The Wednesday afternoon schedule meant that spectators were few. Also, this being a midweek day in post-Olympic selection times, the field size was small. However, what the field lacked in size was more than balanced in quality.,

This Wednesday some of the nation’s strongest sprinters will converge in Cable Wisconsin for the CXC Telemark SuperTour Classic Sprints. The course winds up and down the alpine hill and then finishes in the old coliseum.,

The 5km loop at Mt. Itasca is more ideally suited for skating than classical skiing. What this meant for athletes was a uniquely challenging classic race fondly termed by some “a herring-bone fest.”,
The course, for both men and women, was two laps of five kilometers, beginning with one lengthy climbing section, including “the wall,” followed by a relatively flat middle, and then a technical final two kilometers with a number of descents and turns.,
With the Noquemanon race upcoming this week in Marquette, I am reminded of a former skier from the old U.P.. I heard about this man while working on my new cottage in Autrain this summer.,
