Former Michigan Cup racer and current member of the Bridger Ski Foundation Pro Team Reid Goble has had a great couple weeks. First, he won the Minneapolis SuperTour race. Then he won a gold medal serving as a guide in the Paralympics. Finally, he's been chosen to race in the Men's 10km interval start classic race (3/20) at the FIS World Cup Finals in Lake Placid NY. Way to go Reid!
The 30km (women) and 50km (men) "Sk8 the Ring" Austrian Rollerski Championships will be held on an auto racing track this Sunday, with sprint bonus and an award for the fastest lap.
After a slow start to the ski season in July, good snowfalls over the last two weeks have ensured excellent snow conditions for the event.

With the help of regional coaches attending the camps, the U.S. Ski Team coaching staff selects the top athletes from all four Regional Elite Group (REG) camps (East, Central, West and Alaska) and names these athletes to the National Elite Group (NEG).
There can be a reluctance to want to add the extra travel required to bring athletes from all over the country for a single camp. But any reluctance I might have had was erased at this camp after just three short days here at MTU in Houghton, MI.
Under Cobb’s leadership the US Biathlon Team emerged as one of the top programs in the world this winter when American Tim Burke wore the yellow bib as the world’s top ranked biathlete.
The hard work is clearly etched everyone’s face at the halfway point. At the mid-point, every athlete has to stop for at least 10 seconds, switch rollerskis in order to use up the wheels evenly and drink. Afterwards, the mental battle continues.
One video and four different workouts: Sprints, longer intervals, distance training. It's interesting to see the intensity of the skiing in each workout - and the expenditure of energy.
The video from the camp features rollerskiing, sprint drills - including head-to-head racing - strength exercises (including my favorite, the sideways rock toss), and some great footage of the doublepush in slow-mo.
Media interest in Marcus is much higher than ever before but he likes to control his time. "There has been definitely more media interest in me recently. Though it so not so high I could not handle it by myself."
2010 Olympic gold and silver medalist Billy Demong will be spending time in the saddle as he competes on Team Cole Sport in the 2010 Tour of Utah bike race. After Tuesday's prologue, Demong sits 47 seconds behind the leader.

Hiawatha Highlands: Happy Monday Morning Skiers! It's another beautiful sunny morning....the temp is currently at -6 C, warming up to -1 C.
The groomer is currently out -- the skate lane on the entire Pinder system was freshened up with the Ginzu, and the 2k Lighted skate lane will be freshened up as well. The tracks are still in really good shape. Updates will be posted if further grooming is done.
The Mabel Lake trail was groomed yesterday morning.
We hope everybody has a great day!! :)
Forbush Corner: Temps went below zero last night and some light lake effect snow is falling. We will be grooming, check Nordic pulse on our website later this morning for the fresh groom. We still have 100% coverage on our trail system. Open at 9. Gates close at 5.
Stokely Creek: Classic tracks away from the Lodge were total "chefs kiss" perfection! Skating lane looked great but could still be a little stiffer for spring zooming.
Nubs Nob: Top 2-3 skate of the season this AM at Nubs. Firm and fast powertilled cord on all the loops with a deep track set. After 3+ feet of snow last weekend conditions have been world class since Tuesday. Forecast looks great for this upcoming week and World Cup level grooming will continue until they close in two weeks. Hard to imagine better conditions anywhere in North America currently. Thank you to the crew at Nubs for their commitment to Nordic skiing. Thanks to their efforts we have had an amazing uninterrupted season out there since December 1.
Forbush Corner: The weird concrete snow that we received from the last storm turned into sugar mush yesterday once it was groomed. It rained this morning and is close to freezing. It's to warm to groom with the Pisten Bully at this time. We are going to try to use the Tiddtech to smooth out the skate lanes on the loop. If the base is too soft for the snowmobile we will not continue grooming. Classic tracks are icy at this. Colder temps tonight will allow us to groom on Monday. Base is in great shape with 100% coverage.
Forbush Corner: We did a full system groom for skate and classic today. Temperatures never did go very much below freezing overnight, and as temperatures and skier traffic rose through the day the wet corn snow on the skate deck was churned into mush, and skiers were getting a workout and leaving ruts that will take some deeper tilling to remove. The classic tracks were the best. Skins and zeros were hooking up and glide was pretty decent. Temperatures are not going below freezing until Monday, so no grooming tomorrow. If you come out bring your classic skis. We have set tracks on the whole system. Skating will not be ideal and we need to limit the ruts. If you have to skate, we ask that you stay on the man-made snow loop. We can till deeper there to remove them than the other trails. But we are still shortening the life of those trails.
Stokely Creek: Yesterday's groom was about the same today. Never warmed enough yesterday to transform the surface, plus a half cm of fresh snow overnight. A bit soft and slow for my liking to be honest. Inside scoop: the Bombardier will groom todays new snow on the inner core trails tomorrow morning. Only a partial system, but it should be ultra primo!! Go around twice.
