Boyne Nordican Time Trial,

Just to let the gang know, If Garland cancels one or both days, we will have a time trial race setup on what ever day or days Garland has no race. The plan is a 5k. skate around Vistas & snowbelt in the am, and individual & tag team (welcome the "The World Federation of Nordic Skiers" unofficial world championships!) sprints on the doggie loop in the pm. Info from the race that was held on January 12 (it may be different for the 20th, so check with Hap!:

  1. Time trial style, interval starts.
     
  2. Courses - 5Ks, Vistas loop, Boyne Mtn. at Boyne Falls.
     
  3. Registration - Fri. 9:00am- closing and Sat. from 9:00am-3:00pm. The registration is very flexible because of the time trial format that we will use.
     
  4. Race Times - Skate race - 9:00am-11:am or until all entrants have had a chance to do the course. - Classic race- 1:00pm-3:00pm or until all entrants have had a chance to do the course.
     
  5. Time trial format - At 8:30 & at 12:30 a pacesetter will ski each course to establish a "time to beat." We will then handicap this time at 10, 20, & 30% increments. Special Boyne award pins will be given to skiers that score better- 10% of TTB, 11-20% of TTB, and 21-30% of TTB. Unhandicapped as well as handicapped times will be posted so that indiv. racers can compare their times with each other.
     
  6. This is not a Michigan Cup sanctioned race. It is an attempt to provide a positive but a little different style race experience in place of the cancelled Hansen Hills races. If it is successful and there is enough interest, Kirk and I would be willing to put this program on in place of a canceled Mich. Cup race the rest of the season PROVIDED WE HAVE SKIABLE SNOW AT BOYNE MTN OR BOYNE HIGHLANDS.
     
  7. Cost - Reg. cost is $8.00 per skier plus the cost of a trail pass (Trail Pass = $12.00). We don't make any money on this as the $8.00 covers the costs of the award pins.
     
  8. Awards - Award pins will be given out as soon as you check your time in at the Nordic center. You won't have to wait around for the "ceremony." Race results will be posted on an ongoing basis and summarized at the end of the day.
