Jeff Potter Devises Training Strategy to Defeat Mike Muha
September 22, 2004 - By Tim Feldkamp

Jeff Potter has devised a revolutionary new training strategy that will project his ski results past his chief rival Mike Muha.  "It's like I took a Nordic-Trak and cranked the resistance up to 11," says a winded Potter.

His new training plan starts with the well-known principles of VO2 Max Training and, well, pumps up the volume.  "I call it 'VO Maximum Intensity Training' or VOMIT 2 Max, or just VOMIT.  You compute the average pace the leader will win the race at. Then you divide the race into thirds.  Ski the first third of the race at this pace.  Ski the second third 10% faster.  Race the last third 10% faster than that -- you know -- all out!"

This plan has been mathematically formulated to outperform all others.

Asked about Potter's new training strategy, Muha replied, "He'll need more than VOMIT to beat me this year! He's desperate after the failure of his Backyard Olympics strategy last year."

Potter thinks his recent NordicSkiRacer.com Run/Rollerski Duathlon results prove his point:

With a 38 minute total (20 run; HR 180 avg/194max), I'm personally starting out better than I finished last year---due nearly entirely to my 10 pounds of weight loss---but I think Mike Muha is going a bit faster too!

I gained gradually on the 2 classic rollerskiers but then stalled out when I got close to them. Sure, they were going harder to hold me off (one being named Mike). But when I started doublepoling, I caught and passed them!

Who will win out this year????
