North American Vasa Trail Work Bee

Date: Sat, Feb 25, 2012
Time: 8:00 AM
Where: Vasa Ski Trail, Traverse City, MI
What:

February 2, 2012-Traverse City, MI—The 36th annual North American VASA and the AXCS Masters National Championships are scheduled for Feb 11-12th. Because of the extremely low snowfall this winter and a few days of over 50 degrees, there are parts of the race courses that are very thin. We are attempting to make our primary courses as safe and enjoyable as possible for both recreational and competitive skiers.

We have scheduled a work bee for Saturday Feb. 4th starting at 8am. Details are as follows:

Five teams of 20 volunteers will meet at four locations. Each team will split up and work in opposite directions.
Locations:

  1. Vasa Trail Head off Bartlett Road. Meet in warming hut. Last names A-E
  2. Lands End at Vasa trail crossing. A parking lot will be marked for Vasa volunteers. Last names F-J.
  3. Timber Ridge-start and finish of the Vasa races. Last names K-O.
  4. Sand Lakes Road-west end at the 25k loop. Last names P-T.
  5. Bunker Hill and two-track to the “Nipple”. Meet at the Vasa trailhead warming hut, then car pool to work area. Last names U-Z.

Volunteers should be able to ski or snowshoe. Ice crampons such as SkiTrax would be helpful if icy conditions exist. Bring snow shovels (plastic scoop shovels work well), light weight plastic sleds with rope will help. Sleds can be filled with snow for transport.

For further information either check the Vasa website (www.vasa.org) or call Jim Woodburne (632-6282) or the Vasa hotline(231-938-4400).
