Says Denny Paull: Marv Mendyk died after falling out of a tree while setting up a hunting spot near his home. Marv was an outstanding skier and person. He was active in helping us promote the Black Mountain area and with promoting skiing in general through all of his work with the Straits Striders. Marv would be very recongnizable to anyone on the Michigan Cup circuit through his near perfect form and consistently winning his age group categories through the years.
This is Marv's son, Andy, ghost writing from my dad's email account. I just wanted to get a quick note out to everyone...
As you may already know, Dad passed away around 3 this afternoon. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by a very loving family. We are taking comfort in the fact that Dad was doing what he enjoyed most just before he lost conciousness.
I know that among other things, Dad was very fond of the community establised through the Striders Ski Club and was proud of your successes over the recent years. Dad loved skiing with his friends and family and never let good (and sometimes questionable) snow go to waste. I am confident that he is presently V2'ing on some seriously fast trail thru heaven.
Service will be held in Harbor Springs:
Saturday, November 4th, 2006 Holy Childhood Church in Harbor Springs 10am-12pm- Visitation at the church and memorial. 12pm-1 pm - Funeral Service and Honor Guard Luncheon to follow.
A couple other notes. Dad is being cremated and there will be no burial this weekend. The urn will be interred this coming spring or later. The memorial donation information will be in the obituary in the Petoskey, Saginaw and Midland newpapers, as well as the Harbor Light. All services will be at the church, not the funeral home. There will also be some donation envelopes at the guest book at the entrance of the church. Take care and if you need to reach me, call 708.856.2298.
