Tracy Barnes Leads US Women in Biathlon 15K Individual

Antholz, Italy, February 7. Tracy Barnes (Durango, CO) in 50th place, with three penalties was the top US finisher in the 15K Individual Competition at the Biathlon World Championships today.
Barnes finished 6:58.2 behind Linda Grubben of Norway, who shot clean. Grubben covered the 15K distance in 46:24.3. Olympic Gold Medalist Florence Baverel-Robert of France also shot clean, but finished 1:06.5 back. German Martina Glagow finished a surprising third, 1:35.6 back, with one penalty.

Following Tracy Barnes was her sister Lanny, in 53rd place, also with three penalties, 7:33.8 back. Carolyn Treacy Bramante (Duluth, MN) also had three penalties, finishing 65th, 9:00.9 back. Erin Graham (Jericho, VT) finished 85th, with seven penalties, 14:48.6 back.

On Thursday, the Barnes sisters will team with Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) and Jeremy Teela (Anchorage, AK) in the mixed relay competition. The women race their standard relay distance of 6K each, followed by the men who cover the standard relay distance of 7.5K.
