SAPPORO, Japan (March 3) - Finland's Virpi Kuitunen collected her
fourth medal - her third gold - of the 2007 FIS Nordic World Ski
Championships as she won the 30K classic technique title Saturday by
6.9 seconds of Norway's Kristin Stoermer Steira. Caitlin Compton
(Minneapolis), the lone U.S. entry, did not finish.
Kuitunen,
who got a gold in the team sprint and the women's 4x5K relay (plus
bronze in the sprint), skied to the 30K title in 1:29.47.1 with
Stoermer Steira the silver medalist in 1:29.54.0. Therese Johaug,
another Norwegian was the surprise bronze medalist (1:31.09.9).
