Cross country skiers can gather each Wed at Nubs Nob!

Tue, Jan  31, 2017 - By Jim Harrington

Cross country skiers can gather each week at Nub’s Nob for a new Nordic series created with fun, community, and skill building in mind. Happening every Wednesday night, this soon-to-be midweek staple offers a great reason to get out of the house and on the trails.

Classic: January 4 & 18, February 1 & 15, March 1
Skate: January 11 & 25, February 8 & 22, March 8

Whether you’re an avid racer or first-timer, the Cross Country Ski Series offers you a fun opportunity to improve your skills and get together with other Nordic skiers. Each weekly session will start with a skills clinic (15-20 minutes) and end with a non-guided group ski on the Nordic trails. Skiers will be divided into two groups based on ability: beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced. Free instruction will be offered so that skiers may improve their efficiency and refine their technique no matter their ability level in a non-competitive atmosphere.

The series ends on March 15, alternating each week between skate and classic skiing. February 2 is classic skiing. Skiers can attend any/all weekly sessions that fit their schedules. Registration is required and gear rentals are available both at The Outfitter of Harbor Springs and Nub’s Nob. Skiers should meet in the Brown Bagger room underneath the pub. There is no fee for the instruction but a Nordic ski pass is required; Nub’s Nob is offering passes for $8 at 50% off the regular rate. Food is provided for free at the end of the ski in the Brown Bagger room.

The Cross Country Ski Series is sponsored by The Outfitter of Harbor Springs, Nub’s Nob, Bayside Family and Sports Medicine, Straits Striders, Toko and Madshus. Series coordinator Jim Harrington said “turnout has been really good this year with between 15 and 50 skiers taking part each week. Our hope is that more people will discover this life-long sport and make some new friends in the process”.
