On Day 4 at the U-23 Cross-Country Championships in Tarvisio (ITA), it was a golden day for Switzerland: Silvana Bucher won gold in the U-23 ladies' 10 km race in the free technique and Dario Cologna in the men's 15 km race. 21-year-old Cologna also triumphed last Sunday in the 42-km-long Engadin Ski Marathon, the last stage in the FIS Marathon Cup, and took World Championships bronze in the junior-category over the same distance in Kranj (SLO) last year. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships two weeks ago in Sapporo (JPN), 23-year-old Bucher finished 25th in the 10km race in the free technique.

The silver medal in the ladies' race went to Sofia Bleckur of Sweden, 19.6 seconds behind Bucher but 1.3 seconds ahead of Marina Piller of Italy who took 3rd. The sprint gold medalist Alena Prozhakova (SVK) finished 4th. In the men's race, Ilia Chernousov (RUS) ranked 2nd, 47 seconds behind Cologna, and Nobu Naruse of Japan 3rd.

Top US finishers were Tazlina Mannix in 14th place and Michael Sinnott in 46th place.
