Vasa Trail: Vasa trail has good coverage still as we approach our first warm-up & possibly that dreaded R___ weather condition. I got to thank Glen in person this morning for the classic tracks. Unfortunately, they will probably take the worst hit this week since they're not very deep or firm, but certainly enjoyed skiing in them again today with Diane W on her first ski of the season, 15km from the Bartlett trailhead on the 10k loop, Nipple & Headwaters. LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!!!
Maybury State Park: Conditions at Mayberry are very poor bordering on awful conditions at Bennett Arboretum in Hines Park were much better virgin 8 inch snow 2 to3 km loop
Girdled Road Reservation: Packed surface with some relatively minor footprints and ruts. 2-3" of solid base, I was not feeling the ground with my poles. No rocks to speak of except for a couple on the long hill down to the creek. Softening up as I was leaving around 1:30. Some of the open areas in the field had only been rolled and were soft with significant stubble sticking up through the snow. Very few wet spots to turn into ice if they last through the thaw to the next freeze.
Boyne Mountain: 25k of trails are open and groomed. Our Vistas trail is looking particularly spectacular. We also have a snowshoe trail and a fat tire bike trail open for your enjoyment. Come on down and see us!
Maybury State Park: The park is open for skiing, hiking and snow shoeing, however, our paved trails are not groomed due to equipment failure. As soon as the transmission is repaired on our gator ( it's still stuck on the trail in the middle of the park), we'll be back in business. We apologize for the poor ski conditions and hope that users will still enjoy the park! MSP Staff
Hanson Hills: Red and M-93 Hills groomed for skating. Green, Blue, Brown, and Yellow snow combed with set tracks. Wilderness Trail is tracked!! Lodge and Trails Open 9am-5pm today!!
Cross Country Ski Headquarters: The skiing was fantastic yesterday. Classic tracks and skating lanes still are in great condition on the Manitou, Rolling Hills, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, and Trappers Cabin trails. Tall Pines is still in fair to good condition, and Adventure is ungroomed and open for “back country” skiing and snowshoeing. It is so wonderful to see so many skiers taking advantage of these great early season conditions!
Today’s Stone Turtle Day Lodge Cafe is Classic Chili and Bosco Sticks! Our classic spicy chili is a longstanding wintertime favorite, and when you put it with 3 cheese-filled breadsticks, you don’t even care if you earned it!
The Christmas sale is in full swing! Sweaters, gloves, hats, socks, snowshoes, skis - and it's all on sale! Enjoy this beautiful day on the snow.
